I guess we'll take you. Frankly, at this point we'll take anybody. ;)

Lets make sure to vote him off first though. :)

I think jav is too irritated after the last game to play. I could be wrong.

as others have mentioned, i'm a little surprised that only the 17inch model has a 7200rpm drive option. i'm going to check with apple directly to see if i can get a custom 15inch with a 7200 drive. my audio apps don't work well with the anything slower.

having said that, the ram, fw800 and dual layer burner are a nice addition

Is a fact that iPhones can not meet everyones needs some people want smart phones with a full keyboard some want an SD card. People will buy android phones over iPhones because they cater to their needs. I purchased my G2 because I wanted a full keyboard and a fast proccesor. I did not purchase an iPhone because I hate AT&T and I like SD cards and a file system.

So yeah, you're a geek. Geeks aren't like normal people.

But if no one called 911, they could be in violation of local laws that make it a crime to ignore a violent crime.

There is no legal duty to assist, and laws requiring otherwise are unconstitutional and thus unenforceable.

I still don't have a desire to touch my LCD screen

Unless they can figure something out where that doesn't happen, I'm not impressed.
When this is released you'll be touching it like a sick middle-aged bastard drooling over on screen images of kiddieporn.

Your definition of a "professional" app seems mighty arbitrary, even to the extent of excluding most applications that exist. Specialized databases that are designed for a specific industry wouldn't meet your definition. Computer-Aided-Machining (CAM) software (which is only useful in one industry) wouldn't meet your definition. I could go on, but I think you get my point.

No, I don't get your point. CAM software is used in a variety of industries. Auto companies, airline companies, boat industries, tools industries, machine shops, agricultural industries. But if the CAM software is a mature useful standard in those industries it is probably a very capable pro app. Like wise customized databases would not be a pro app in itself. The database program used is the pro app not the specific database.

So now you're adding another level of definition to what it takes to be a "professional" app? Some percentage of people have to know about it? And where do you draw the line? Gee, I guess this means that any start-up company trying to produce a new professional application is doomed because how can they ever reach this percentage upon the release so their product can be considered "professional"?

It is not another level of defiintion. Industry standard implies that most professionals use it, Doesn't it?

Yes, it is very very difficult for a startup company to produce a competitive pro app in a mature industry. It takes several years for a product to mature and recieve user feedback and multiple modifications before I would classify it as "Pro". That is why these are difficult markets to crack.

I work for GE and we are all Dell (unfortunately). Dell laptops, desktops, servers. Everybody gets Dell and nothing else. Can you imagine a company wide policy (300k workers). While the stuff breaks pretty quickly (my latitude laptop had cracks on it within 2 months of use), I was told that the enterprise service plans that Dell offers are unbeatable. The will swap stuff overnight and make sure you have something to work with. If Apple were to have a good service plan for enterprise, I think they will get more takers. Until then, Apple will be more popular with consumers and not enterprise.

Don't confuse Dell consumer service plans with enterprise. Enterprise is their bread and butter.

Seriously though, the tech is cool, but it's one more thing to drain on the battery. I'm looking forward to the days when all iPods will be flash memory--sleeker, better battery life, and faster. I'm not too interested in the magnificent disappearing scrollwheel.

Wouldn't matter anyway if you were using a ThunderBolt external hard drive. Very few mechanical hard drives can even reach 1Gbps-2Gbps. You'll need several of the fastest SSDs in RAID to even reach ThunderBolt speeds.

USB 3.0 FTW. More practical.USB 2.0 brings my CPU to its knees, can't imagine how bad USB 3.0 is. Some people have **** to do for the 2 hours its transferring.

Microsoft has waited WAY too long to make any type of impact on the portable music device industry. iPod has been around now for too long, and has too strong of a grip on the marketshare for anyone to try to threaten their hold. This Zune thing will have to have some aspect to it that is totally it's own for anyone to take any notice to it whatsoever.

It has something unique, look at all the press covering it now, and how many of us are talking about it.

Thank god, I wasn't fond of the new style. I found it kinda confusing and out of place.

Best news ever. I hope they roll it back in other menu's as well.

But you're dealing with Apple customers, they sacrifice themselves for the good of the company.

Yes, Apple tricks everyone into loving them. That's what is happening; it couldn't be their focus on creating products that people love. Nope.

Thunderbolt would be a killer feature for this machine - and would open up a whole load of expansion options.

Sonnet are marketing a load of interesting accessories, from Gigabit ethernet and FW800 adapters, to RAID arrays, to full-size PCIe expansion card housings, all of which can connect via Thunderbolt.

Those CPUs are pretty fast. For everyone except gamers it should be a nice machine.

To be honest, if you carry a TB to FW, RAID, PCIe expansions, whats the point of carrying an Air?
Also, will they have to sacrifice a 2.0 USB port in order to intergrate a TB port?

Idk why people say that the update affects only gamers. It affects almost everyone. OpenGLs, 3D, movies, etc.

Although I do believe the CPU will have an amazing boost, I think the GPU sacrifice will be a very huge one. But only time will tell.

yeah not worth it. on a 8 core 3GHz each step takes ~45 mins

    45*100=4500
    /60=75
    /24=3.13 days

preferred is 4 days and a final deadline of 6. even if u ran a 4 core 24/7 i don't think it would complete it
