*cough* TFT Panels?!! Didn't iMac's always have an IPS Panel?

TN and IPS are both TFT. Apple will still be using IPS panels on the iMacs.

Apple knows what their doing. They will wait as long as they can on the 5G. Then before competition arises they will release a new one to stay on top. I wouldn't doubt that they announce a new iPod during the WWDC(a month away, eeekkk!). Jobs talked a little bit about the iPod the last few years, at the WWDC.

Then again, Microsoft lost money on every Xbox sold just to get their foot in the door. It's possible they will do the same thing on the "iPod Killer". Time will tell.

What's going to happen with Pakistan relations? If he was in the capitol of Pakistan in a mansion, most likely the government knew.

He was captured in the region/border of Pakistan and Afghanistan. No, the army and government is not contributing to any Taliban or insurgency attacks, just like the afghan army. They are supported by allied forces.

But no, they can't announce it in June and release in September. This isn't software, this is a hardware refresh. Availability follows announcement by 2-3 weeks tops. Otherwise, you won't hear about it.

I understand what you are saying but remember that Apple was able to do it with the iPad, a product that has sold incredibly well during a time that it was less known than the iPhone itself. It could happen.

People keep saying that it might be a September release but it could arrive much sooner. AT&T admitted not knowing when the next iPhone will be launched. So it could be late July or mid August... or September but that would be awful.

One last thing. A lot of people waited for a white iPhone 4 (announced ten months before!) and it is still selling despite the fact that a possible refresh for the product might be around the corner.

I think amazon should use a better compression format, but at nearly half the price the same song on iTunes, apple has a tough sell.

Wow, glad I avoided the Brea store, sounds like a mess.

Ended up grabbing two from the South Coast location (one for myself, and one for work to develop with, as they let me go early to go stand in line). Arrived around 2:30, and the line was around 300 at that point, with it mostly outside. Thanks to the guy next to me for providing sunscreen, I got a bit of a tan but avoided a full sunburn.

What was strange is that mall security would yell at anyone with a foldout chair, claiming it's a safety issue since it would block more of the sidewalk and not allow people to easily walk by without stepping into the road. Seems reasonable, until I noticed all the Apple employees just kept going up and down the road anyhow and security said nothing. Oh well.

One tip an employee was passing along was to buy whatever model you could if they didn't have the exact one you wanted, then take advantage of the 14 day return policy later. Might be a bit rough for some people though with the expected stock shortages, but will also mean a likely appearance of the iPad 2 on the refurb side quicker then normal for folks looking to save a bit.

That may be ok in iOS and on my iPad as it is easy to use with touch technology, but as more and more business professionals are adopting mac laptops, iMacs or Mac Pros - that is very unprofessional looking to be on a potential business computer. I know Apple wants to be uniform across devices and we are moving closer and closer to everything being iOS as the main operating system. But seriously, businesses will think that is not professional and we are going back to the non-uniform weird looking DOS-based application days. It is true, there is no uniforminality in the apps in the app store. It is having a consistent UI that made it easier for everyone to adopt Windows back in the day. Every application had the same looking and functionality in the GUI; so there was no learning curve.

That iCal may be easy to use, but is unprofessional looking for potential business computers. Also, many people use ical as it integrates so well with other applications. I still say combine Apple Mail, iCal, and address book into 1 application - so I do not have to have 3 apps open taking up screen space and using more resources. That is what we have in Windows and Linux.

    AND KEEP IT PROFESSIONAL LOOKING!

As from what people are posting on the new iCal and Apple Mail, I am afraid the OS is becoming less business intuitive, less functionality, less uniforminality among apps. Something that may hurt Apple more with trying to integrate into the business world.

With the old iCal, I can choose what events I want to see. I can have separate calendars for items, etc. I have several apps that have their own calendar in ical - which allows me turn on or off viewing them with a check box.

edit - Although I am looking forward to a uniformed iChat.

its about time apple is forced to compete with others for the best device again

agreed. We haven't seen any ipod updates in a long, long time. The shuffle is over a year old, the nano is approaching a year, and even the 5G is no spring chicken any more. I certainly don't want to see MS cut too much in to apple's marketshare, but if a little competition means pushing apple a little more, that sounds good to me.

    -Magsafe is an actual innovation.

It's not. Such power-connectors have been around for a long time. The thing that Apple did was to be first to put one in a laptop. But the actual technology is not new.

It could be a bad mod job, I doubt some random AT&T employee got a hold of an actual White iPhone 4.

Agreed... if it's not announced, it's not in the wild. Probably one of those conversion jobs... someone was selling a white conversion kit for $200.

does this still have lag/freezing issues?

I know when lion beta was first released it would lag and freeze a lot! also it was very unstable, 80% of the apps would crash constantly.

I'll delete all the music that I've purchased via iTunes that will be available on the cloud, yes.

I wouldn't delete it. Local storage is so cheap that you'd be almost foolish to not have a local physical backup.

Personally, I wouldn't store my music in the cloud. I would back it up and stream it from the cloud, but it wouldn't be my only copy. Call me paranoid, but I like backups.

I agree more vertical space and matte option. I'm really not a fan of these cinema screens. I find them annoying when just plain web surfing. I'd rather buy a old used 24" iMac with a matte screen. Come on Apple I've got $1,800 ready for you don't let me down.

I love the larger screens, You do realise you can resize your browser window so its the size of the 24inch screen, the 27 inch has higher resolution when you resize the window to 24 inch it will be the same reslution as it would be on the 24 inch and the same size!
I don't understand why so many complain that the 27 inch is so big when resizing is so simple. I can have 2 things open side by side!

I think Matte would be good, but you can just go buy a film and apply it quite easily so thats not a show stopper for me, however I have read it can lose some clarity so a factory applied option would be better.

Now, you were complaining I used 100/100 in the CPU analogy? fine, I will change it. CPU will be 90/100 and GPU is 80/100 as the 30% increase in cpu and 30% decrease in gpu, we will see a difference of 117/100 and 56/100. Am I arguing that there will be nothing to be gained from a bump in processor speed? Definitely not! Who doesnt love the little extra power when we need it? Who doesnt want the latest in tech?

These are all random/nonsensical figures you've made up FX4568. Outside of gaming, there are prescious few apps that will be affected by a 30% decrease in GPU. Your '100 baseline' beneath which a GPU becomes unusable bears no relation to reality.

This will be even more true as Apple becomes better at optimising for Grand Central dispatch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Central_Dispatch). As an example the new Final Cut Pro X is said to optimise and scale well across all sizes of systems. I'd expect a much faster processor to 'soak up' the GPU drop in this instance.

What im saying is that the downgrading of the GPU outweights the upgrading of the CPU in terms of OVERALL performance.

No. Outside of gaming, a larger proportion of processing is done in the CPU than the GPU, and improving the CPU will yield greater benefits.

But as of me and the I believe majority of MBA owners

You can only really talk for yourself and others in this thread that subscribe to that opinion. What evidence to you have that the majority would notice?

I would expect that most MBA owners aren't hardcore gamers - it's just not that sort of machine. Medium power graphic uses, like productivity apps or watching movies wouldn't be noticeably impacted.

Of course, I don't have any figures to back up that belief either. ;)

The word "same" never occurs in the text, which never contemplates multiple installs.

It says you can't use it in a virtual machine. End of story. End of discussion.

Vista Business and Ultimate include additional licenses to also run the same licensed copy of Vista running natively on the licensed device in a virtualization environment as well.

In other words, if you purchase or build a PC with Windows Vista Ultimate, you can use that same installation and license to install it in a virtualization environment on that same platform. That goes beyond what has been done on any other platform for virtualization, and why the limitation is specifically delineated on Vista Home:

You may not use the software installed[1] on the licensed device[2] within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system.

[1] This means "the software" (i.e., Vista Home Basic or Premium) is already installed on a licensed device.

[2] The "licensed device" is the device that Vista Home is already installed on, and that license may not be reused to also install it in a virtualization environment, which you CAN do with Vista Business and Ultimate, because Microsoft includes additional licenses specifically for virtualization use, which is why there are all these specifics about virtualization use on the lower end Vista versions in the EULA in the first place.

The Vista Business/Ultimate EULA on the same topic states:

    6. USE WITH VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGIES. You may use the software installed on the
licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system on the licensed device. If
you do so, you may not play or access content or use applications protected by any Microsoft digital,
information or enterprise rights management technology or other Microsoft rights management
services or use BitLocker. We advise against playing or accessing content or using applications
protected by other digital, information or enterprise rights management technology or other rights
management services or using full volume disk drive encryption.

This is because Vista Business and Ultimate include additional licenses so that you can use the same copy, legally ALSO within a virtualization environment on that same system. This is more than is possible with any other commercial OS, from a licensing perspective. The restrictions on Vista Home are ONLY restricting you from using it in a VM on the device where it's already installed. If you buy Vista Home standalone as a retail box, and it's not installed anywhere else, you are free, legally and technically, to use it in a VM to your heart's content.

The "Install VMWare Tools" botton is miss labled. It does not install them. What it does is replace your CDROM with an image file. Try thse steps:

    1) click "Install VMWare Tools"

    2) Go inside your guest OS and look at the CDROM drive.

    3) From Inside the OS install what you find on the CDROM.

    4) Re-boot the guest OS.

    Thanks Chris,
What the problem was is that I had installed WindowsXP from and .iso image, so after the installation and everything was up and running, the D Drive "D:\" was still that .iso. I had to change the D drive to the actual DVD-ROM and the restart. Once that was done I had no problems installing the VMWare Tools.
